What Wondershare Recoverit Is

Recoverit scans a wide range of storage devices, hard drives, SSDs, USB drives, SD cards, NAS. It recovers deleted, corrupted, or lost files. The software handles standard deletion, formatted drives, lost partitions, and corrupted file systems.

Recoverit also includes a video repair module. This module restores corrupted footage from body cameras, dashcams, and surveillance systems. Often, video isn't playable. The module fixes it.

Investigative Use Cases

Recovering deleted files from confiscated devices is a critical task. Deleted data sticks around on disk until it's overwritten. Recoverit can pull back files deleted before a device was seized, whether that was through legal channels or the owner handed it over.

Deleted interview recordings, surveillance photos, or documents copied from a target system can all be recovered from SD cards and USB drives. The sooner you act, the better chance you have of salvaging something before new data wipes it clean. Recoverit's preview mode allows you to peek at what's on a drive without having to restore everything.

Recoverit can handle damaged or messed-with recording media. The video repair module handles MP4, MOV, AVI, and other formats, salvaging footage that would otherwise be lost.

The Advanced tier is a must for teams and agencies working with institutional data. It adds recovery from Linux systems and NAS devices, which are key additions, Linux systems, NAS devices.

What Recoverit Is Not

Recoverit isn't for making court files. It's consumer software for getting files back.

When you're doing a casual investigation or research, you might not need all that forensic rigor. That's where Recoverit comes in.

It's faster, easier to use, and gets files back without the fuss.

Pro tools like FTK, Autopsy, or EnCase are for when you need chain of custody, hashes, and all that. But for digging around, Recoverit works.

Wondershare DrFone (Mobile Recovery)

Recoverit handles drives and external media. Wondershare's other product, DrFone, focuses on mobile devices, recovering deleted WhatsApp messages, call logs, photos, and contacts. DrFone works on iOS and Android. It is a separate purchase, but ties into the same Wondershare account.

Pricing

Plan Annual
Essential $79.99/year
Standard $99.99/year
Advanced $129.99/year
Perpetual (Standard) $139.99

The Standard plan handles most investigations. The Advanced plan is ideal for teams or agencies, adding NAS, Linux, and video surveillance recovery.

You can try it free: scan and preview without limits, but large file recovery, over 100MB, requires an upgrade.

Practical Considerations

Act fast, data gets overwritten quickly. When you grab a device, your first priority is to prevent further writes. Don't browse the drive, install new software, or let background processes run wild.

SSDs complicate things, especially with TRIM commands that swiftly erase deleted data. Your window for recovery is much smaller. HDDs and flash media, such as SD cards and USB drives, are more forgiving.

Encrypted drives require a detour. You'll need to crack the BitLocker or FileVault lock first. Recoverit can't handle encrypted data on its own. You must clear that hurdle before recovery.

Verdict

Recoverit is your go-to for quickly pulling deleted files from drives or removable media. No fuss, no special training needed. It handles everything from documents, videos. If you need evidence for court, switch to a forensic-grade tool.
